Rosalva Medina has 19 years of experience at the University of Illinois at Chicago committed to the advancement of best practice business administration and financial operations across inter-organizational boundaries and external constituents at a local, regional and national level. Recently, she joined the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research’s Office of Research Services (ORS) as a Sponsored Projects Specialist where she negotiates contracts.
Prior to her current position, Ms. Medina worked at the Greater Midwest Region’s Regional Medical Library for ten years as a Business Services Specialist where she managed the fiscal operations covering 10 states and handling 125 subcontracts during each 5-year contract from the National Library of Medicine. She also worked as Business Manager for the School of Public Health’s International Center for Health Leadership Development where she handled the fiscal operations of the department during the 5-year grant from the Kellogg Foundation. She has also worked for the College of Urban Planning’s Urban Transportation Center where she assisted with portions of the fiscal operations and day to day activities.
Ms. Medina earned her bachelor’s degree in Marketing and her MBA in International Business and Entrepreneurship from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Education Administration and Foundation at Illinois State University and a participant in the first cohort of the Latina Mastery Institute’s year-long Leadership and Philanthropy Program. She is a member of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs. Ms. Medina volunteers as a Wish Granter for the Make a Wish Foundation granting wishes for kids with life threatening diseases.
In 2001 she was named one of 50 Hispanic Heroes in the Chicagoland area as well as a National Society of Hispanic MBA’s Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar. In 2002-2003 she was the Spokesperson for the American Lung Association’s Clean Air Campaign. In 2010 she completed the Mujeres de HACE (Hispanic Alliance Career Enhancement) Leadership Program and was named Woman of Character by the Midtown Foundation.
Ms. Medina is married to Jorge Medina and they have two children Jessica who is pursuing a Master degree in Health Policy and Administration and 4-year-old Giovanni. They currently live in Chicago.
